The Schoolhouse Garden – The end of the beginning

Last weekend marked the end of a full year of this garden diary. From one winter to another. Fifty two consecutive weeks, three hundred and sixty five pictures and a random assortment of musings depending on whatever happened to come to mind when sitting in the garden. The idea started life when I was recovering from a hip operation and moping around on crutches. I began to enjoy the rhythm of it and it soon became a routine part of the week; looking for inspiration on your doorstep, focussing your vision while letting your mind wander.

More than that, I have enjoyed reading some lovely comments from gardeners all around the world. I have had the privilege to enjoy sharing a glimpse into their gardening life too. I know we take all take this internet stuff for granted and often begrudge it but sometimes you have to think back to your childhood and pinch yourself that any of this is possible just at the touch of a keyboard.

The end of the diary year coincided with a series of unrelenting storms that have been drifting across the country. I took this as a sign to sit back a little and take a break. I think I will continue to keep writing but perhaps not with such monotonous regularity. Perhaps I will write again next week – we shall see.

In the meantime thank you to everyone who has had the patience and kindness to join me in the garden this year.

All the best,
